...is a universal, mathematical, construct created by man. Today time has become very relevant. Even though everybody carries his own life rhythm, we tend to get lost in predetermined rhythms and patterns.
It is time to hear the wakeup call.
It is time to find the way back to our own rhythm.

Breath is in many ways a very powerful tool to overcome emotional distress and acts as an anchor to direct the awareness of the soul.
My goal was to show the importance and use the power of breathing to make it easier for the user to set his attention to the breath and thus to the inner self.
I have designed a "chair", "NUMA", which breathes simultaneously with the user. As a result of integrating more body senses, the experience of breath is intensified and eased.
In its appearance the chair creates an analogy to the human thorax. Especially to the ribs and lungs. Thus, the chair appears to be a living creature, which will accompany you on the journey of self-discovery.

The breathing movement is created by 3 linear motors which move the sitting space in the vertical and change the diameter of the chair itself. In the terminal state, the chair would upon touching a rib either begin to demonstrate a calm breath for the user to align to, or would start moving in sync with the users breath. The sitting surface is situated in the middle and consists of a circle frame tensioned with elastic fabric. This causes the body to resonate with the chair’s movement. The envisioned sitting posture is the cross-legged seat. However, a more "horizontal" posture, like sitting down with the legs resting on the outer fabric would also be imaginable. Numa is intended to serve primarily as a meditation seat but also could be envisioned as a normal more playful furniture
