soft, spungy, forgiving, protecting, artificial colours, packaging, bubbles, square, chemical, padding, upholstery

These images and attributes come to mind when thinking about "foam".
A material used when padding is needed for comfort or for protection. 
A boring material only used concealed and for it's function. 

But is foam truly boring ? Or is the one directional context we imagine it boring ? 

I was not bored about foam. 

I was bored about the taught predetermined processes, ways of thinking and working in design. Oriented to solve selfmade problems on a superficial level and in the most efficient way possibile. Meaning fast predetermined results. 

In this project I took the time, risk and freedom to let myself be guided by the material's properties. Freeing myself from expectations and external influences other than the material itself, left me with curiosity, the satisfaction of working with my hands and intuition as my main drive. 
Experimentations, mistakes and coincidences : the process itself, formed the result. 

In the course of this project I manipulated foam with the following materials and processes:
ceramics , galvanic plating, spray foam, casting resin, plastic spray coating and metal casting. 

The result is a series of filter foam objects which, through the manipulation, have gathered a certain function and aesthetic. These objects communicate a possibile solution. Just like the process itself, they serve to fertilize new ideas and to reawake curiosity for the undetermined.
