Photography series "Protest" by Jasper O'Callaghan:
"The universe is not depictable." Because of the process up to the depicted image and the way the camera works, photographs never show reality but rather a representative interpretation of a moment.
I wanted to expose this to the viewer by not even trying to represent the motif, but by deliberately abstracting it by moving the camera whilst shooting thus making the motif almost completely unrecognisable.
I see this movement as a "protest" against representing reality and as a counter-evidence to the timeless claim in art that photography would do so.
The photographs of the series "Protest" show a reality that only exists in the symbiosis between camera and photographer and its moments, that can only be depicted as a representative interpretation on paper.
